Course
Objectives
The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts and theoretical perspectives related to language and communication studies. By the end of the course students will be expected to have developed a broad base of knowledge in the field of language and communication studies and have a better understanding of the curriculum the College of Intercultural Communication offers.

Contents
Instructors will take turns giving lectures on a range of topics related to language and communication studies. Topics covered may include the historical and social features of communication, verbal/non-verbal communication, the relationship between communication and culture, first and second language development, bilingualism, the teaching of language, foreign language policy, and the factors that generate the need for interpreting and translation as well as the intercultural communication aspects related to all of the above.
