Objectives
This class will explore the long relations, the good as well as the not so good, that Japanese have shared with primarily the Korean peninsula but also with China where appropriate. It will consider issues from both a global and a local perspective.

Students will be expected to do readings prepared for the class, and also prepare three short papers (3-5 pages), as well as a longer paper (10 pages) that can be based on one of the shorter papers. For the longer paper students will be expected to find extra resources. The shorter papers can be based on class readings.
