Objectives
The purpose of this course is to provide the students with an overview of the linguistic, psychological and educational aspects of bilingualism.

Course
Contents
We will cover five major areas of research on the individual aspects of bilingualism--language development and loss, language choice and code-switching, cognitive features of bilingual individuals, education of children through multiple languages, and bilingual identity. The students are expected to work on reading assignments, participate in class discussions, write short reports based on library research and/or surveys on a number of issues related to the content of the lecture, and write an academic paper as a final assignment.

5. Can we "lose" our language(s)? –-Language attrition among bilinguals 
6. How do bilinguals use their languages? --Formal aspects of code-switching 
7. How do bilinguals use their languages? --Functional aspects of code-switching 
8. How do bilinguals interact in their family? – Language choice and family bilingualism 
9. Were bilingual children misunderstood? --Bilingualism and intelligence 
10. Do bilinguals "think" differently? -- Bilingualism and cognition 
11. How do children learn through two languages? --Bilingualism and cognitive theories 
12. How do we teach through two languages? --The curriculum of bilingual schools and its effectiveness 
13. How do bilinguals think about themselves? --Bilingualism and identity
