This course provides students with an overview of humanitarian assistance including its foundation and standards.

Contents
Globally and regionally, we are experiencing difficult times. The humanitarian community is moving to a rights-based approach in most settings including in peace building, and disaster preparedness.
The cause and impact of humanitarian crisis, both man-made and natural, are more complicated, and through this course, several key areas in humanitarian assistance will be discussed.
There will be a few guest speakers who have intimate knowledge and experiences in humanitarian assistance. Students are requested to actively participate in discussion and presentation throughout the course. Depending on the availability of guest speakers, the topics covered in the course maybe adjusted.

1. Submit a short paper at the end of the course.
2. Work along with other students in a small group to work on one of the topics covered in the course to make a brief presentation.
