Objectives
This course aims at understanding how communities in Rikuzentakata city are responding to the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, while working together with students from overseas universities.
Students will be visiting Rikuzentakata City in Iwate Prefecture which was struck by the major disaster in March 2011.
Rikkyo students will be joined by around 10 students from overseas universities: Stanford University, Hong Kong University and National University of Singapore, and work together in the field to understand the current situation of Rikuzentakata.

Contents
Participants will conduct field collaborative work in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, which is heavily affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Each team is given an assignment on various topics that will be provided during the pre-departure sessions. After the field work, each group will work on the final presentation which takes place in Tokyo.
All participants are required to attend the pre-departure and sessions and post-field work session. - Students from other universities, including Stanford University will participate in this group.

English is used as the course language.

July 10 (Sat) 14:30-17:30 [Ikebukuro campus] Preparation session 1 (Rikkyo students only)  
August 3 (Tue) 14:30-17:30 [Ikebukuro campus] Preparation session 2 (Rikkyo students only)   
August 26-27 (Thu, Fri)10:00-18:00 [Ikebukuro campus] Pre-departure session students from other universities will join
August 28-September 1 (Sat - Wed) [Rikuzentakata City] Field work
September 2 (Thu)10:00-17:00 [Ikebukuro campus] Post field work wrap-up session  

Between July 10 and August 28, students are required to participate in preparatory work with staff and students from overseas, which includes virtual collaboration.

1. Expenses: Approx. 60,000 Yen (inclusive of round-trip group fare between Tokyo and Rikuzentakata city, local group transportation fee, accommodation fee, group breakfast and dinner.)
This expense may be partially subsidized by Rikkyo University as the program uses Rikuzentakata Global Campus.

During the pre-departure sessions, each student is asked to gather information on Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, and Rikuzentakata City and other areas affected by disasters.

Due to the spread of COVID-19 and long term impact, this course may be conducted in a different format including online. More information will be made available in May.

This course is conducted in English. Students are expected to be ready to collaborate with other students in a small group.

・Number of participants will be limited. (approx. 10) and will conduct screening.
・Students from Stanford University, Hong Kong University, and National University of Singapore planned.
・Should be registered at Rikkyo University for Spring and Fall Semester of 2021.
(Should not be absent from school.)
・Make sure you check your 2021 edition of collage course guidebook by yourself for application period and course registration.
