Objectives
This seminar course aims to understand the identity politics of gender and sexuality manifested by film as a social text. Course readings traverse film theories and methods, and textual analysis drawn from different genres and regions.

Contents
Informed by the weekly readings, we will examine the filmic portrayals of individual and collective identities classified by the conjunctions of gender, class, ethnicity and nationhood, and pay special attention to the trans-nationality of Japanese, Korean and Chinese films, which has evolved from their cultural and geographical proximity, and shared historical experiences of western colonialism and war memories of the peoples.
