この授業の目的は、履修者が、聖書テクストを読み、さまざまな解釈方法について学び、それぞれの解釈方法の長所と短所について知り、聖書解釈の多様性と現代における適用の可能性、限界について学ぶことです。

The purpose of this class is for students to read the Biblical text, learn about the various methods of interpretation, the strengths and weaknesses of each method, and the diversity and contemporary applications of biblical interpretation.

これまでユダヤ教とキリスト教の両者の伝統でさまざまな解釈がされてきた創世記2－3章の「エデンの園」物語を題材にして、主に文学理論とイデオロギー批評を用いた解釈を適用することで、ヘブライ語聖書の解釈の多様性と現代における適用の可能性について学ぶ。

Using the "Garden of Eden" story in Genesis 2-3, which has been interpreted in a variety of ways in both Jewish and Christian traditions, we will learn about the diversity of interpretations of the Hebrew Bible and their applicability to our time by applying interpretations that draw primarily on literary theory and ideological criticism.
