Course Objectives

We will ascertain what theological Christian ideas attempt to convey from the perspective of the "theology of field(/place)/nothingness" that was advocated in contemporary Japan through dialogues with Buddhism. We will take a look at leading figures including Seiichi Yagi, Masaya Odagaki, Isao Onodera, and Youji Inoue. Then, based on them, we will consider how we are.

Course Contents

We will ascertain what Christian ideas attempt to convey from the perspective of the "theology of field (/place)/nothingness" that was advocated in contemporary Japan. Then, based on them, we will consider the arguments of Seiichi Yagi, Masaya Odagaki, Isao Onodera, Youji Inoue, who advocated the "theology of field (/place)/nothingness," and also consider the concept of "self".
After the class, you will submit your opinions and questions in a reaction paper. Some of them may be shared in the class in an anonymous form. It is desirable that you participate actively, as the class will involve sharing submitted comments. Additionally, we will hold discussions between students with different views and answering questions and comments.
As necessary, the schedule and content of classes may be adjusted according to your interests from your comments suggested.
In order to deepen your understanding, we may use visual materials as supplementary course material.
