Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to learn "with fun" what Christian theology is through the decoration of sacred space, and to guess the concept of Renaissance painters who produce their works under various conditions.
Course Contents
When you hear the terms "Christology" and "Western art history", you may think that these subjects are somehow difficult and difficult to approach. However, what I would like to tell you in this course is how interesting Western art works are.
The murals and mosaics that decorate the interior of Christian churches contain a wealth of information. The murals painted in the Sistine Chapel and the Pope's library called the "Signature Room" not only visualize the Bible's contents, but also depict ancient Greek thought and unique ideas of the painters.
I hope that by reading various information contained in the murals, you will feel more familiar with Western art and that you will visit these places in the future.

キリスト教の聖堂装飾を通して、キリスト教とはどのような教えなのかを「楽しみながら」学ぶこと。
ルネサンスの画家たちが様々な条件のもとで、どのように自身の制作概念を具現化したのかを推察していくこと。
The purpose of this course is to learn "with fun" what Christian theology is through the decoration of sacred space, and to guess the concept of Renaissance painters who produce their works under various conditions.
授業の内容 / Course Contents
「キリスト教学」とか「西洋美術史」という言葉を聞くと、何やら難しくてとっつきにくい科目のように思われるかもしれません。ですが、本講座でみなさんにお伝えしたいことは、西洋美術作品の面白さです。
キリスト教の聖堂内を彩る壁画やモザイクには実に多くの情報が含まれています。例えば、ローマのシスティーナ礼拝堂や「署名の間」と呼ばれる教皇の書斎に描かれた壁画には、単に聖書の記述が視覚化されているだけではなく、古代ギリシア思想や画家たちの独特なアイデアも内包されているのです。
壁画に秘められた様々な情報を読み解いていくことで、みなさんがこれまで以上に西洋美術に親しみを感じ、将来、現地に赴いて作品を実見したいと思っていただけると嬉しいです。
