Course Objectives

This course aims to help students acquire a basic legal approach (or an elementary method of legal thinking) and fundamental knowledge of the law.

Course Contents

This course addresses fundamental concepts of law, to be explained as plainly and simply as possible. In modern society, individuals act freely under the legal rules. These rules treat them fairly and equally, and if someone's rights are violated, the rules are sure to remedy those rights. Students learn functions of these rules and understand main principles that underlie legal arrangements.
Course lectures explain main legal principles and functions, major divisions within the law, the relationship of rights and duties (claim right and duty, privilege and no right, and so on), judicial precedents, and the judicial system and its ideals. Finally, the course covers constitutionalism.
