Course Objectives

 Students will understand the purpose and content of moral education at schools based on the significance and rationale of morality. Also, students will understand instruction plans and instruction methods necessary in the subject of moral education as carried out through the school’s overall educational activities.
 Especially regarding elementary school moral education thinking and instructional methods, students will take on the question of “what was morality originally and why is it necessary in education?,” and while also understanding logically and philosophically, aim for creating new methods of moral education while improving current methods.

Course Contents

1) In the first half of the class, students will become competent in the basic ways of thinking in modern ethics and moral theory in order to carry out moral education. Students will be able to do the following things. Students will be able to explain the qualities of morality (what is morality?). Students will understand issues of moral education (bullying, information morals, etc.) in modern society as well as in the history of moral education. Students will understand the growth of children’s minds and the development of morality. Students will understand the goals and main contents of moral education and the subject of moral education as laid out in the curriculum guidelines.
2) In the second half of the class, students will study instruction plans and methods in the subject of moral education. In the lecture, students will discuss moral issues that affect them, and learn about moral education methods and evaluation methods, etc., practically through dialogue. Students will learn the following things. Students will understand the necessity of moral education instruction planning in schools and instruction through schools’ overall educational activities. Students will understand the characteristics of diverse instructional approaches for bringing out qualities of moral education class. Students will be able to actively design classes based on the characteristics of course materials in the subject of moral education. Students will be able to clarify the class aims and instructional process, and make a learning plan for the subject of moral education. Students will understand learning evaluation methods based on the characteristics of the subject of moral education. Through holding model classes and reflecting on them, students will develop an eye for class improvements.
