Course Objectives

The aim of this course is to provide students the basics of environmental thought through the study of great (mostly French and Western) authors from the past and today. The appropriate academic vocabulary will be taught in the process. French concepts, the history of the matter, and its methodology will be introduced.
This course is aimed at those who want to discover with serious interest - or upgrade their knowledge of - environmental thought on an anthropological basis. Don’t take it if you expect an English discussion class, which it is not.

Course Contents

This course will alternate history, theory and practical cases. A strong historical and academic base will be provided while delving into more contemporary approaches (i.e. political, ecological, urbanistic or philosophical). Quiz and videos will be used too.

※Please refer to Japanese Page for details including evaluations, textbooks and others.
