Course Objectives

This class aims to contribute to each student’s approach to the SDGs goals by learning about the basic concepts of theatre --conflict, dialogue, empathy, and action—as the case model of our reality and how theatre has practically been applied to understanding others and solving social problems.

Course Contents

This exercise will focus on the student’s presentation, oral reading, role-playing, and discussion in two ways. The content will be adjusted according to the number of students and their interests.

1.To learn about the basic concepts of Western theatre, "conflict," "dialogue," "empathy," and "action" from English materials, and to understand how they construct the world of drama through oral readings of some famous plays in Japanese.

2.To learn how legendary theatre practitioners have applied their theatrical methodologies to solve problems by understanding others and thinking differently for a better situation from English materials. Then, to practice the methods oneself.

3.To consider what actions we should take to overcome the realities of war, with reading Israeli plays as models of the "conflict."

※Please refer to Japanese Page for details including evaluations, textbooks and others.
