本講義ではアメリカ詩の精読を通して、文学作品を分析・考察するための基礎を学ぶことを目的とします。韻文に慣れ、言語に敏感に反応する感覚を身に着けると共に、作品をめぐる歴史的・文化的背景を作品理解および分析に用いる練習の場とします。

This course will provide students with the opportunity to become familiar with rhymes through the close reading of American poetry, develop a sensitivity to language, and learn the fundamentals of using historical and cultural context in understanding and analyzing works.

アメリカ詩を毎回一篇ずつ精読していきます。2020年にノーベル文学賞を受賞したアメリカの女性詩人ルイーズ・グリュックの詩を中心に取り上げます。授業は三段階構成（発表・ディスカション・教師によるまとめ）になっており、発表者（毎回2～3人）はハンドアウトを準備したうえで発表担当をしてもらいます。発表とは別にコメンテーターも各自、分担してもらいます。

The course will mainly focus on the poetry of Louise Glück, the American woman poet who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020. In each class, one poem is taken up for close reading. The class will consist of three stages (presentation, discussion, and teacher's explanation), and two or three presenters (each time) will be assigned to prepare a handout and be in charge of the presentation. In addition to the presentations, each student will be assigned a commentator.
