Course Objectives

Develop the logical thinking and writing skills needed to produce a graduate thesis or equivalent piece of writing. Produce an organized piece of writing of around 12,000 characters.

Course Contents

Whether you write a graduation thesis or create a graduation piece, it is necessary to develop the know-how to read and comprehend logical texts, understand their structure, compose your own logical text and give a presentation on it. In this seminar we will learn technical rules to follow when writing and aim to cultivate the ability to compose a written text that is not just understandable to yourself, but able to successfully convince others of your argument. Also, this is the seminar for building a base of knowledge on how to write a graduate thesis or equivalent piece of writing. Therefore, the lead lecturer of this seminar does not necessarily need to be the same person as a student’s fourth year graduate thesis (or graduate piece) supervisor. A joint class with another lecturer’s class will also be carried out midway through the course. Students will submit a preliminary graduate thesis (or graduate piece) paper (of around 12,000 characters) as a final report for this seminar.
