Course Objectives

Students will specifically consider the enjoyment of narrative films, taking the standpoint of creators.

Course Contents

"When talking about the enjoyment of narrative films, we often use the words of critics, like "direction" and "screenplay." But to what do those words specifically point?
In order to reconsider the "direction" and "screenplays" that everyone supposedly understands, this class will read scenarios from the viewpoint of creators, and will explore what "direction" means through the differences between the scenario and the finished work.
As scenario analysis will be conducted in class, course takers should perform two tasks in advance. The first is to divide the drama into paragraphs to grasp its structure. The second is to guess the ideas for the starting point of the scenario from the standpoint of the scenario writer.
Please note that we do not cover any animation or games.
