The objectives of this course are to (1) to increase understanding of the various research methods of New Testament studies and (2) to research several texts of the Gospel of Matthew in detail within the context of the entire story and theological framework of the Gospel of Matthew.
Through its narration of the acts and teaching of Jesus, the Gospel of Matthew presents a complex picture of Jesus as Israel’s anticipated Messiah and the savior who brings the Kingdom of God for all peoples. As the second longest Gospel, one of the most quoted books of the New Testament in the early Christian literature, as the first book in the traditional order of books in the New Testament, and as one frequently read and quoted in Christian liturgy and worship until the present, it has exerted great influence on the historical and theological understanding of Jesus. In class, students enrolled will give presentations (individually or in groups) based on the text of Matthew, commentaries, and research journal articles, and discussion by everyone will follow.

この授業科目の目標は様々な聖書学研究の方法の適用を触れながらマタイによる福音書のテキストを読むことによって、（1）新約聖書学研究方法の理解を向上させ、(2)マタイによる福音書の全体的な物語と神学的な枠組みという文脈の中で幾つかの箇所を詳細に研究することである。

イエスの行いと教えの物語を通して、マタイによる福音書はイスラエルが待ち望んでいたメシア及びすべての民族に神の国をもたらす救い主としてのイエスという複雑な描写を提供する。二番目に長い福音書、教父文書において最も頻繁に引用される書物の一つ、新約聖書の伝統的な配列においては新約聖書の最初の書、現在に至るまでキリスト教の典礼や礼拝の中で頻繁に読まれる書として、マタイによる福音書はイエスの歴史的かつ神学的な理解に非常に大きな影響を与えてきた。授業では履修者（個人ないしグループ）がマタイによる福音書の本文、注解書、論文に基づいて発表を行い、その上で履修者全員による討論を行う。
