The Hebrew Scriptures/Old Testament is a holy scripture in both Jewish and Christian traditions. The Hebrew Bible as the sacred book of Judaism and Christianity, or the holy book, has been the foundation of these religious thought, but it has also had a great influence on culture and thought, especially in Europe. In this class, we will study Genesis 1-11, which has been the subject of many interpretations. In these passages, we can see the biblical view of the world, of man, and of God. The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic academic knowledge of these stories and the diversity of biblical interpretations.
In this class, students will study the stories recorded in Genesis 1-11. In doing so, we will also utilize paintings and other visual materials to illustrate 1) previous Jewish and Christian interpretations, 2) the scholarly achievements of modern biblical studies, and 3) the diversity of modern interpretations.

ヘブライ語（旧約）聖書は、ユダヤ教・キリスト教の聖典、つまり、聖なる書物として、これらの宗教思想の基盤となってきたが、同時にヨーロッパを中心とする文化と思想に大きな影響を与えてきた。この授業では、その中でも、特に多くの解釈がなされてきた創世記1－11章について学ぶ。この箇所には、聖書の世界観、人間観、神観などが見られる。これらの物語についての基礎的な学問的知識と聖書解釈の多様性について学修することがこの授業の目標である。

この授業では、創世記1－11章に記される物語について学ぶ。その際に、絵画などの視覚資料も活用しながら、１）これまでのユダヤ教・キリスト教での解釈、２）近代聖書学の学問的な成果と、３）現代の解釈の多様性について、説明していく。
