To be able to critically examine the social role and limitations of contemporary Christianity through perspectives of sociology of religion.
This course provides an opportunity for learning theories, methodology and the Christian significance of sociology of religion, through the case of Restorative Justice movement, which has become popular especially in the West. Restorative Justice is one of criminal justice programmes. Its programme aims to bring both the offender and victim to the same table to discuss how the offender can make amends to their victim. Christian groups, who respect the principles of reconciliation, forgiveness and peace, made a contribution for developing the programme. What are their claims? What is their sociological background? What are the potentials for Christian based public programme? What is the issue when Christians face in the contemporary, securalised society? From perspectives of sociology of religion, we will examine the social role and limitations of contemporary Christianity.

宗教社会学の視点を通して、現代におけるキリスト教の社会的役割と課題について批判的に考察することができる。
To be able to critically examine the social role and limitations of contemporary Christianity through perspectives of sociology of religion.
本講義では、近年、欧米を中心に広がりを見せる「修復的正義（Restorative Justice)」運動を事例に、宗教社会学の理論や手法、キリスト教学的な意義について学ぶ。「修復的正義」とは、被害者と加害者の当事者同士の対話を通して加害者の処遇を決めるという、犯罪司法プログラムである。このプログラムの発展の背景には、和解や赦し、平和の概念を尊んだキリスト教グループの貢献があった。彼らの主張とは何か、その主張の社会的背景は何か、キリスト教発の公的プログラムの可能性とは何か、そして、世俗化の進む現代において、キリスト教信仰者が直面する課題とは何か。宗教社会学の視点を通して、現代におけるキリスト教の社会的役割と課題について批判的に考察する。
