By the end of this course, students will be able to
① Learn the history of Christian women’s movement in Japan;
② Explore the diverse connections and complex dynamics among gender, religion, and society; and
③ Develop the ability to critically analyze contemporary social issues.
Christianity has emerged as a diverse set of phenomena across different regions, historical periods, and contexts in Asia. This course focuses on the negotiations between Christianity and gender/sexuality in Japan. Christianity has been deeply involved in women’s movements in Japan, but how have women understood “Christianity,” and how have they connected it to social movements? From the early twentieth century to the present day, this course examines the wide range of issues women have engaged with and clarifies the challenges that remain unresolved.

本クラスを通して受講生は、
① 日本におけるキリスト教女性運動の歴史を学び、
② ジェンダー・宗教・社会の多様な結びつきと複雑な力学を探求することで、
③ 現代社会における諸課題を批判的に分析できるようになる

アジアのさまざまな地域・時代・文脈においてキリスト教は多様な現象として現れ出てきた。本講義では日本におけるキリスト教とジェンダー／セクシュアリティとの折衝に焦点を当てる。日本の女性運動にはキリスト教が深く関わってきたが、そこにおいて女性たちは「キリスト教」をどのようなものと捉え、それをいかに社会運動と結びつけてきたのだろうか。20世紀初頭から現在に至るまで女性たちが取り組んできた幅広い課題を学び、積み残された問題を明らかにする。
