This course aims for students to understand Japanese society through the lens of "religion." Certainly, Japanese people who belong to a particular religion are not the majority. However, they perform many forms of religious behavior in daily life. To understand this situation, students need to know the historical background. From this perspective, the course considers the relationship between modern Japanese society and religion.
To understand the relationship between modern Japanese society and religion, this course addresses the outline of the history of Japanese religion, and introduces the contemporary issues.

この授業では宗教史という視点から、私達を取り巻く日本社会の成り立ちの理解を目指していきます。「日本人は宗教に関心が薄い」とよく言われます。確かに特定の教団に属している人は多数派ではありませんが、私達の日常生活には宗教的な行動は多くあります。このことを理解するには、歴史的な背景を知ることが肝心です。このような視点から、現代日本社会と宗教の関わりについて考えていきます。
