The goal is to learn the basic concepts, logical structure, and methods of expression of historical research through lectures on English literature, and to learn how to “write” research literature.
The academic world has rules that are followed by the researchers who participate in it. They must clearly state in their notes and in the text what the basis for their claims is, and they must develop their theories logically through chapter and verse, using common concepts that the reader-researcher can understand, from problem formulation to conclusion. In this class, we will take up English literature on topics of common interest to seminar participants and, in the process of reading it, learn about such common academic rules throughout the world.

目標は、英語文献の講読を通じて、歴史研究の基礎概念、論理構成、表現方法を学び、研究文献の「書き方」を知ることです。
The goal is to learn the basic concepts, logical structure, and methods of expression of historical research through lectures on English literature, and to learn how to “write” research literature.
学問の世界には、その世界に参加する研究者たちが守っているルールがあります。それぞれが主張することの根拠は何かについて、註や本文の中で明示する必要があり、また、問題設定から結論に至るまで、読者である研究者が理解可能な共通の概念を用い、章立てや節立てを通じて論理的に自らの説を展開しなければなりません。本授業では、セミナー参加者が共通に興味を持てるテーマに関する英語文献を取り上げ、それを講読する過程で、そうした世界共通の学術上のルールについて学んでいきます。
