【Course Objectives】

Through close reading of academic papers /books especially written in Japanese, the seminar participants will learn what themes are currently attracting attention in Japanese academic world of ancient Mediterranean studies, and will be able to decide their own research themes.

【Course Contents】

The seminar participants will be asked to make selections from Japanese-language academic papers according to the interests of the each participant and to give presentations on them. Through accurately grasping the authors' intents and logic and through learning how to use historical materials, the participants will discover what they must do for their own undergraduate theses. This work aims to learn matters such as how a theme set according to a participants' interest is positioned within the scholarly trends of Japanese academia, and what sort of contribution the participant is expected to make to it.
