The aim of this class is to acquire reading of historical materials, field research, and the ability to perform preparatory work necessary for field research for the study of Japanese history.
The gold and silver mines on Sado Island are currently the subject of various local efforts to have them inscribed on the World Heritage List. How the results of historical research are or are not incorporated in these efforts to inscribe the site as a World Heritage Site, and how the preservation of historical sites should be considered, are major issues not only on Sado Island but also internationally. Knowledge of these developments will lead to consideration of the position of historical research in the various initiatives (historical practices) related to 'history'.
Based on this awareness of these issues, the aim of this project is to consider the history of Sado Island from ancient to modern times in the context of Japanese and world history. Sado is rich in ancient and medieval historical sites, and with the focus on the gold mines, it may be necessary to consider position in the history of Sado.
The fieldwork is planned for four days and three nights in early August, with preparatory meetings held during lunch breaks and free periods during the spring term (a concrete schedule is expected to be available in early April, so those wishing to know the schedule earlier should inquire by email).

ガイダンス以前に調査の日程などについて知りたいものは 佐藤（yuki-sato★rikkyo.ac.jp（★を＠に置き換えてください））まで「フィールドワーク希望【学籍番号・名前】」というタイトルをつけてメールを送ってください（メールを送った後、諸般の事情で履修を見合わせることは可能です）。
①史料・地誌の読解と現地調査（史跡の調査や博物館での聞き取り）を組み合わせて学び、 日本史研究において必要となる現地調査に必要な準備作業を行う能力を習得する｡
②世界遺産登録や史跡保存、地域史研究の現状について学び、日本社会における歴史学・歴史研究のありかたについて認識を深める。
The aim of this class is to acquire reading of historical materials, field research, and the ability to perform preparatory work necessary for field research for the study of Japanese history.
佐渡の金銀山は現在、「佐渡島の金山」として世界遺産の登録が目指されており、地元でも様々な取り組みがなされている。こうした世界遺産登録に向けた取り組みにおいて、歴史研究の成果がどのように組み込まれ、あるいは組み込まれていないのか、史跡保存と観光・地域振興の関係をどのように考えるのか。これらは、佐渡の事例のみならず、国際的に大きな課題となっている。歴史学は現在の現実とは一定の距離をおきつつ過去の史実を追究する学問であるが、その一方で無関係でいることはできない。「歴史」にかかわる様々な社会的な取り組み（「歴史実践」）のなかで、歴史学はどのような役割を果たしており、そして歴史学者はどのようなスタンスをとるべきなのだろうか。
こうした問題意識をもとに、①世界遺産、史跡保存、地域史研究における課題を学びつつ、歴史学が果たすべき役割について議論を深めるとともに、②具体的なフィールドとして、古代～近代における佐渡の歴史を日本史および世界史上において考えることを目標としたい。
③佐渡は古代・中世の史跡が豊かに存在しており、金山がクローズアップされる一方で、それらの歴史的な重要性を考える必要もあるだろう。古代国家が全国に国郡制を敷いた際、対馬・隠岐・淡路とならんで、佐渡は「離島」として「国」に位置づけられた。「北の国境」という位置づけをもった「離島」の歴史を通じて、「日本史」を考えなおすこともできる。
フィールドワークは、春学期中の昼休みや空きコマなどを利用して準備会を行い、8月上旬の平日に3泊4日の調査を予定している（4月上旬のガイダンスの際には日程は確定していると思われる）。
