本授業は、大学で求められる水準の、英語でのアカデミックライティングに必要な技術の習得を目的とする。学生は、アカデミックライティングに求められる作法と必要事項を確認したうえで、英文を読み、議論し、エッセイを書くことが期待される。さらに、自ら書いたエッセイを読み直し、推敲する力を身につける。
This course aims to help students to acquire college-level academic writing skill in English. Students are expected to check requirements of the academic writing and to read, discuss and write coherent academic essays on topics of their choice. Similarly, students will be armed with skills to review and edit their own essays throughout this course.
本授業は、目標達成のために主に以下の3つのアクティヴィティによって構成される。①アカデミックライティングに求められる作法や専門的知識について学ぶ、②その実践として授業外で課題を仕上げ提出する、③成果について改善点も含め授業で議論する。最終的には、トピックやリサーチ・クエスションを履修者が自身で設定したうえで、1200語程度のエッセイを提出することが求められる。
The course contents comprise mainly the following three activities necessary for achieving the course aims: learning rules of academic writing and the relevant expertise; writing essays as an assignment based on ideas shared through this course; sharing and discussing course products in a pursuit of refinement. As a final step, students are required to choose and build their own topics and research questions, and to write around 1,200 word essays based on these elements.
