This course examines the challenges, achievements, and scholarly concepts of social history research from the latter half of the 20th century to the present. It seeks to understand how these elements have been integrated—or not—into contemporary historical studies, taking their broader context into account. Building on this foundation, the course aims to help students identify pathways to develop their own interests and inquiries in accordance with academic methodologies.
This course is broadly divided into two parts: the first half focuses on historiography, and the second half on case studies. In the first half, we will critically revisit the ways in which social history has emphasized human connections (sociability), primarily through the lens of "exchange" (market and gift exchange), while examining the foundational concepts of social history that have been carried into contemporary historical studies. Building on this foundation, the second half will explore drinking practices (particularly beer) in the German-speaking world of the 19th to early 20th centuries, considering the various aspects of social bonds formed through "exchange" and their historical transformations.

本講義では20世紀後半から現在にいたるまでの社会史研究の課題と成果、学術概念について知り、それらが現在の歴史研究にいかに引き継がれているのか、いないのかを背景と共に理解します。これをふまえて、自らの興味・関心を学問的方法に即して発展させる糸口をつかむことが目標です。

本講義は大まかに前半の学史編と後半の事例研究編に分かれます。前半では現代歴史学に引き継がれている社会史の基礎概念を学びながら、主に「交換」（市場交換と贈与交換）の視点から、社会史が重視した人と人との結び付き方（社会的結合）を批判的に見直していきます。これをふまえて後半では、19-20世紀前半ドイツ語圏の飲酒慣行（特にビール）を取り上げて、「交換」から生み出される社会的結合の諸相と歴史的変化について考えていきます。
