In Japanese historical research, the term "地域"plays an important role. Japanese historians often hold conferences or workshops and edit anthologies on this topic. But, despite its importance, the term "地域" looks as if it has not yet been defined. Each historian uses his / her own term "地域". The term "地域" seems to remain in a conceptual chaos.
His lecture deals with some cases from modern european history to discuss the potentials and limits of this term for historical research.
The lecture deals with the controversial term "地域" in Japanese historical research. In order to discuss the term, the lecture explores in detail several examples from modern German history that have to do with the term "地域". The lecture will explain the ambiguity of the term "地域" and its merits and limits as a research approach.

本講義では，19・20世紀のヨーロッパ、とくにドイツの歴史からいくつかの事例をあげて、歴史における地域について考えてみたい。
ドイツに関心のある学生，こうした問題に関心のある学生はもちろん，なんとなく寄ってみたという学生も大歓迎である。素材を講義という形で提供するので，みんなでいろいろと考えてみたい。歴史の知識がなくても大丈夫なようにするので，ちょっと覗いてみてほしい。
日本の歴史研究では、「地域」という概念が重要な役割を果たしている。日本の歴史研究者は、しばしば「地域」をテーマに会議やワークショップを開き、論文集を編んだりしている。しかし、その重要性にもかかわらず、「地域」という概念はいまだに定義されていないように見える。それぞれの歴史研究者が自身の「地域」という概念を使っている。「地域」という概念は、混乱の中にあるように思われる。
本講義では、ヨーロッパ近現代史からいくつかの事例を取り上げて、この概念の可能性と限界について議論する。

本講義では、日本の歴史研究で議論となっている「地域」という概念をとりあげる。そのために、本講義では、「地域」に関係して、主にドイツ近現代史からいくつかの事例を選び、それらについて詳しく検討する。そのことから、「地域」という概念がもつあいまいさと研究のアプローチとしての有効性や限界について考える。。
