1. Understand the historical events in Europe from the late 19th century to the mid-20th century, along with their causes and their consequences.
2. Comprehend the historical concepts such as nationalism, socialism, or pacifism.
3. Consider how the historical understandings of these wars influence contemporary society.
This lecture examines how European society transformed through the two World Wars, from the case of modern French. The modern values established by the 1910s underwent a shift following the First World War. Through concepts such as nationalism, patriotism, assimilation, and exclusion, we will explore the events leading up to both World Wars, the phenomenon of war itself, and the postwar societies that emerged.

１．19世紀末から20世紀中盤のヨーロッパにおける基本的な歴史的事象と、その原因および結果を理解すること。
２．ナショナリズムや社会主義、平和主義といった概念を、歴史的に理解すること。

本講義では、二度の世界大戦をとおしてヨーロッパ社会がいかに変容したのかを、フランスを事例として考える。1910年代までに築かれた近代的価値観は、第一次世界大戦を境目として変容する。ナショナリズムや愛国主義、同化と排除などの概念をとおして、両世界大戦にいたる経緯や戦争という現象、そして戦後社会をみていく。
