The course aims to provide frameworks for understanding both the positive and negative aspects of the concept of "minority".
This course examines issues of nation and ethnicity, with a focus on modern Czech history.
The time span covered ranges from the late eighteenth century to the so-called expulsion of Germans.
The course aims to develop an understanding of ethnic conflicts in Central and Eastern Europe, viewing them not as conflicts between fixed ethnic groups, but as processes through which the very ideas of ethnicity and nation were constructed.

近現代チェコの事例を中心に、ネイションおよびエスニシティを取り巻く諸問題の歴史を扱う。
扱う時代は18世紀末から第二次世界大戦後の「ドイツ人追放」までである。
中東欧における民族問題を、所与のものとして民族間の対立としてではなく、民族概念そのものの構築をめぐる動きとして理解する力を養う。
