This course will give an opportunity to understand the past interactions between humans and environments through the environmental archaeological studies on transition from foraging to farming in West Asia.
Two major problems in prehistory will be discussed in this course. Focusing on the origin of modern humans at first, we will discuss when and how our ancestors, who are thought to have originated in Africa, spread to other parts of the world. Secondly, we will discuss that how the environment influenced human life and how food-producing economy was established in prehistory through the overview of changes in lifeways of people from final Pleistocene to early Holocene West Asia. In addition, how the early farmers played important roles in the establishment of East-West interchanges will be discussed.

西アジアにおける狩猟採集から農耕牧畜への移行の過程に関する環境考古学的な研究を通じ、過去において人間と環境が相互に与えた影響への理解を深める。
This course will give an opportunity to understand the past interactions between humans and environments through the environmental archaeological studies on transition from foraging to farming in West Asia.
本講義では先史時代の大きな二つの事柄を取り扱う。一つ目は現生人類の起源問題に関するものである。アフリカで誕生したと考えられている我々の祖先が、いつ・どのように世界各地へと拡散していったのか、近年のデータを用いて議論を行う。二つ目は西アジアにおける更新世末から完新世の初頭にかけて、時代ごとの人々の生活形態の変化を概観することで、先史時代において環境が人々の生活に与えた影響や、いかにして食糧生産経済が成立したのか議論を行う。また、初期農耕民の周辺地域への拡散の様相を扱い、どのようにユーラシアの東西交流の成立に影響を与えたかにも触れる。
