【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

　古代寺院の成立と展開を，古代王権の仏教受容と関連させて講述する。東アジアの古代王権における仏教の受容が朝鮮半島や日本でどのようになされ，やがてどのように在地社会に定着していくか，中央の寺院だけでなく地方寺院にも視点を置く。
　従来古代の仏教史研究は国家仏教研究が中心であったが，本授業では地方や民間仏教からのアプローチによって，古代仏教の解明を試みる。授業の内容に関係する方法論としては，文献史学だけでなく，考古学や文学などにも関連する学際的な方法で進めていきたい。そのため，関係する考古資料や文献史料はプリントを配布する。この授業では，従来学習してきた日本史学とは異なり，多様な歴史学的方法論を身につけることも到達目標とする。

The establishment and development of ancient temples are described in relation to the acceptance of Buddhism by the ancient royal power. How the acceptance of Buddhism in the ancient kingship of East Asia was carried out on the Korean Peninsula and Japan, and how it eventually became established in local society, is viewed not only in central temples but also in local temples.
Traditionally, the study of ancient Buddhist history has focused on national Buddhist studies, but in this class, we will try to elucidate ancient Buddhism through approaches from local and private Buddhism. As for the methodology related to the content of the class, I would like to proceed with an interdisciplinary method related not only to the history of literature but also to archaeology and literature. Therefore, printouts of relevant archaeological materials and documents are distributed. In this class, unlike the traditional study of Japan history, the goal of this class is to acquire a variety of historical methodologies.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

　仏教の伝来によって日本でも古代寺院が成立するが，その古代寺院の成立を中国･朝鮮半島の寺院と比較し，日本の古代寺院の特質を解明する。次に氏族仏教から国家仏教の変質を寺院から解説する。その上で現在の国家仏教研究の諸問題を取り上げ，地方仏教の性質についても触れ，寺院の成立がどのような意味を持つのかを述べる。従来古代の仏教史研究は国家仏教研究が中心であったが，本授業では地方や民間仏教からのアプローチによって，古代仏教の解明を試みる。

With the introduction of Buddhism, ancient temples were established in Japan, and the establishment of these ancient temples was compared with that of temples in China and the Korean Peninsula, and the characteristics of ancient temples in Japan were elucidated. Next, I will explain the transformation of clan Buddhism to state Buddhism from the temple. It then deals with various issues in the current study of national Buddhism, touches on the nature of local Buddhism, and explains the significance of the establishment of temples. Traditionally, the study of ancient Buddhist history has focused on national Buddhist studies, but in this class, we will try to elucidate ancient Buddhism through approaches from local and private Buddhism.
