To understand the state of contemporary Japan and the world by learning about the diplomacy and culture created through exchanges between Japan and other countries from Heian period to the early Edo period (the transitional period between the Middle Ages and the Modern Period).
Learn about the things and historical documents that are key to understanding what is stated in the objectives of the class, and think about the background of those things and documents.Depending on the number of students, students may read the latest articles written in Japanese by themselves and present a summary of the content in class.

平安時代から江戸時代初期（中近世移行期）までの日本と海外の外交、交流で生まれる文化を知り、現代の日本や世界の在り方を理解する。
To understand the state of contemporary Japan and the world by learning about the diplomacy and culture created through exchanges between Japan and other countries from Heian period to the early Edo period (the transitional period between the Middle Ages and the Modern Period).
授業の目標で掲げられたことがらを理解するためのカギとなる事物や史料を知り、その背景について考える。受講人数によっては、日本語で書かれた最新の論文を学生自身が読み、その内容の要約を授業中に発表する。
