Acquire knowledge of modern Japanese history and gender history along with research history.
Acquire methods to examine modern Japanese history from multiple perspectives by learning the history of gender history and analytical methods.
Understand the origins of historical materials and be able to critically read the social conditions of the time from a variety of historical materials.

This class will propose one way to critically read modern Japan through the use of historical and analytical methods of women's and gender history.
In the first half of this class, we will focus on historical materials and archives of modern Japan, and explain how to research and analyze materials from a gender perspective.
In the second half, we will focus on classical women's history and gender studies of modern Japan, and explain how to learn and critically inherit historical researches.

1. 近代日本史、ジェンダー史についての知識を、研究史との関係を視野に獲得することができる。
2. 近代日本史を多角的に捉え考察する方法を習得することができる。とりわけジェンダー史の歴史と分析手法を学ぶことで、歴史を捉える自身の視点を相対化し、多角的に歴史を考察することができる。
3. 史資料のなりたちを理解し、多様な史資料から当時の社会状況を批判的に読み解くことができる。

この授業では、女性史・ジェンダー史の歴史と分析手法を手がかりに、近代日本を批判的に読み解く方法のひとつを提起する。
この授業の前半では、近代日本を対象とした女性史・ジェンダー史研究、ジェンダー分析の歴史を確認した後、近代日本の史料、アーカイブズを紹介し、史料、特に活字史料からジェンダーを読み込む方法を考える。史資料としては残りにくいとされる女性の歴史、ジェンダー史がいかに発掘されてきたかを検討し、実際に史料を読んでいく。前半は史資料調査・分析方法を意識した授業となる。
後半では、前半で検討した史資料と女性史・ジェンダー史研究を念頭に、女性史・ジェンダー史研究の史学史をたどり、その古典的かつ重要な研究の一部を実際に読んでいく。いくつかの研究者の問いと研究成果に触れることで、女性史・ジェンダー史研究の意義、具体的なテーマに沿った日本近代史の成果を学ぶ。
リアクションペーパーを通した積極的な参加、自発的な調査研究を歓迎する。
