Under themes of the "comfort women" issue of the Japanese military and modern licensed prostitution systems, this course takes an overview of the historical relationship between modern Japan's licensed prostitution system and the comfort women problem of the Japanese military, while making comparisons with other countries and considering the issues of armed forces and sexual facilities/sexual violence that continues even after the war.
What is the issue of "comfort women" of the Japanese military, and why has it not been resolved even today? In addition to answering these questions, the lectures will place a spotlight on the relationship between this problem and modern licensed prostitution systems. The licensed prostitution system and the “comfort women” issue were separate, and many "comfort women" victims were people who had nothing to do with the prostitution. However, it is known that women sold into prostitution, the geisha trade, and the barmaid trade became “comfort women” in some cases, that such cases were common among Japanese “comfort women”, and that the two were deeply related. The lectures will also touch on the fact that the modern Japanese licensed prostitution system and human trafficking were hotbeds for the issue of “comfort women” in the Japanese military. It will make comparisons with sexual facilities and sexual violence in other countries and armed forces, and further touch on the situation surrounding poverty and the sex trade/sexual violence in contemporary Japan.

「日本軍「慰安婦」問題・近代公娼制度・現代の性売買というテーマのもと、近代日本の公娼制度と日本軍「慰安婦」問題との歴史的関係を概観するとともに、各国との国際比較、戦後の性売買について考える。

日本軍「慰安婦」問題とは何で、なぜ今日に至るまで解決していないのだろうか。本講義はこうした疑問に答えるとともに、同問題と近代公娼制度との関係に焦点をあてたい。公娼制度と「慰安婦」問題は別物であり、多くの「慰安婦」被害者は性売買（売春）とは関係のない人々であった。ただし、身売りで娼妓・芸妓・酌婦にさせられた女性たちの中に「慰安婦」になったケースが存在したこと、それは日本人の「慰安婦」に多かったことがわかっており、両者は深く関係していた。本講義では、近代日本の公娼制度と人身売買が日本軍「慰安婦」問題の温床となったこと、加えて、各国・各国軍の性的施設・性暴力との比較、さらには現代日本の女性の貧困と性売買・性暴力をめぐる状況とその国際比較についても具体的に言及したい。
