Be able to explain the general outline of the path Japan's mountainous regions have followed. Students will be able to consider the various problems facing local communities today from a historical perspective.
This course covers the history of mountainous regions from the pre-modern period to around the 1970s. After outlining national-level political and economic changes, we will examine the distinctive features of mountainous regions' history, particularly from a socio-economic historical perspective.

日本の山間地域が辿ってきた歩みの概観を説明できるようになる。今日の地方社会が抱える諸問題について、歴史的観点から考えることができるようになる。

この授業では、近世から1970年代頃までの山間地域の歴史を扱います。全国レベルの政治・経済の変化の概略を押えたうえで、山間地域の歴史にはどのような特徴があるのかを、特に社会経済史の視点から考えます。
