Acquire the skills to understand the historical background behind the descriptions in historical documents.
When considering Japanese history, acquire a broad perspective that looks not only at Japanese historical documents but also at historical documents from other countries.
This course will examine the process by which descriptions of Wakoku/Japan in Chinese historical documents were established as historical sources. The most well-known are official histories such as the Wei Zhi Wajin Den. However, there are also articles about Wakoku/Japan in various other historical sources, such as political texts like the Tongdian and the Tang Huiyao, geographical texts like the Kuo Di Zhi, and related works like the Zhao Fu Yuan Ji. The descriptions in these various historical sources will be analyzed historiographically.

中国史料における倭国・日本に関する記載について、史料としての成立過程を講義する。もっとも良く知られているのは、魏志倭人伝のような正史の列伝である。ただし、それ以外にも『通典』や『唐会要』のような政書、『括地志』のような地理書、『冊府元亀』のような類書など、様々な史料に倭国・日本に関する記事がある。多様な史料における記述を、史料学的に分析する。
