2. Students will be able to explain changes in the diplomatic stance of Australia between the time of the beginning and today.
3. Students will be able to explain the urban social problems in Australia by giving some examples.
Australia is said to be one of the most beautiful and lifestyle-friendly countries in the world. Australia enjoys a strong image as a country blessed by a warm climate and abundant agricultural and mineral resources, populated by cheerful and friendly "Aussies." However, until the mid-1970s, it was a completely different place that, under "white Australia policy," did not accept Asian immigrants. The road to mutual reliance between Australia and Japan has been very difficult. This class will seek the real face of Australia in terms of regional geography, from diverse perspectives including natural conditions, history, cultural background, economic circumstances, and roles in the international community.

授業で使うパワーポイントのスライド（空欄穴埋め式）はおおむね当該授業の前週の授業日までにはアップされているので，次週の授業までの間にあらかじめ目を通して，空欄に入る用語を予習した上で当日の授業に臨むとよい。
パワーポイントの内容と，授業時の教官の口頭説明や板書内容を書き取った自筆ノートとを比較しながら復習する。

基本的にはパワーポイント（穴埋部分に解答が入ったもの）を画面投影し，受講生は聞きながらそれらの解答をメモする形式です。基本的には，スマホやiPad等のタブレット端末でメモをとりながらの受講を推奨します。紙にプリントアウトする必要はないでしょう。
毎回の授業で用いる教材（パワーポイント資料，授業動画）は，LMS上で公開します。
担当教官は兼任講師ゆえ，オフィスアワーはありません。質問・連絡事項がある場合は，メール（jtsu@geoenv.tsukuba.ac.jp）で受け付けますが，その際，必ず「PCのメールアドレス（GmailなどのWebmail可）」から送信して下さい。未着トラブルが多いので，携帯ドメイン（docomo, ezweb, softbank, icloud等）からのメールには返信しません。

世界で最も美しく暮らしやすい国の一つといわれるオーストラリア。「温暖な気候に恵まれ，豊富な農産・鉱物資源に恵まれ，陽気でフレンドリーなオージーの暮らす大らかで豊かな国」という印象の強いオーストラリアだが，1970年代中盤までは，白豪主義を掲げ，アジア系移民を受け付けない，全くの「別人」だった。そのオーストラリアが，日本と「相思相愛」の関係になるまでの道は決して平坦ではなかった。この授業では，自然条件，歴史，文化的背景，経済状況，そして国際社会における役割など多様な視点から地誌学（地域地理学）的に，この国の素顔に迫る。
