Exploring cultural interactions at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean World and the Gulf regions through an overview of the prehistory of Southeast Arabia in relation to its neighbouring areas.
This lecture will explore the prehistory of Southeast Arabia by overviewing artefacts, features, and sites. It will also discuss how ancient peoples adapted to an arid environment without major rivers and consider Southeast Arabia’s position as the north-western end of the Indian Ocean World and the south-eastern boundary of the Gulf region. By introducing archaeological evidence from neighbouring areas, the lecture will highlight the significance of Southeast Arabia’s prehistory as a crossroads of diverse cultures.

アラビア半島南東部（南東アラビア地域）の先史時代を関連する諸地域の状況も含めつつ概観し、インド洋世界と湾岸地域の結節点における文化の交流史を学ぶ。

本講義では、南東アラビア地域における先史時代における文化の変容を、遺跡・遺構・遺物の具体例を紹介しながら通史的に取扱う。同時に、大河なき当地域において先史時代の人々がいかに環境に適用してきたかを解説するとともに、インド洋世界の北西端と湾岸地域南東域に接し、さまざまな文化が交差した結節点としての南東アラビア地域の意義を隣接地域の状況を踏まえつつ考察・理解する。
