In this seminar, students will examine issues surrounding war and education, using the methodology of the study of the history of educational thought. By reading texts on the atomic bomb and representations of war in the postwar period, we will clarify the problems faced by education in the postwar period. Furthermore, based on this work, the goal of the class is to enable students to develop their own unique perspectives for rethinking contemporary education.
For the first seminar of the fall semester, we would like to examine “war” as portrayed in films released after 1950. Specifically, we plan to discuss films by Yasujiro Ozu and Kihachi Okamoto. Next, we will examine the war experiences and compositional activities of Akira Ifukube, a composer best known for his work on “Godzilla,” by reviewing his related writings. We will consider the qualities of Ifukube's music from the perspective of how he experienced the “postwar” period.

このゼミでは、教育思想史研究の方法論を用いながら、戦争と教育をめぐる諸問題を考察します。戦後における原爆や戦争の表象をめぐるテクストを読みながら、戦後の教育が抱えてきた問題を明らかにします。さらに、この作業を踏まえて、受講者自身が、現代の教育を問いなおすための独自の視点をもつことができるようになることを授業の目標とします。

秋学期のゼミは、最初に、1950年以降に公開された映画において描かれた「戦争」を考察したいと思います。具体的には、小津安二郎（『東京物語』（1953）『麦秋』（1951））、岡本喜八（『独立愚連隊』（1959年）『地と砂』（1965））らの映画を取り上げる予定です。次に、『ゴジラ』の劇伴を手がけたことで知られる作曲家である伊福部昭の戦争経験と作曲活動を、関係する著作を講読しながら考察します。伊福部の音楽の特質を、彼がどう「戦後」を経験したのかという視点から考えてみたいと思います。
