Social education refers to educational activities conducted broadly outside of formal schooling. In recent years, it has also been defined as an approach that connects local community members through learning and contributes to building the foundations that sustain communities. At the core of social education, however, lie practices of self-directed learning and mutual learning. What kinds of educational practices do these concepts entail?
In this course, students will examine the historical development of social education in order to understand its fundamental principles. Based on this foundation, the course explores concrete practices of social education through written records and case studies, focusing on the methods and ways of thinking that support these practices.
In addition, each class session includes group discussions and collaborative learning activities, in which students write reflection papers on their insights from the class and share them with their peers. Through this process, students will experience forms of collaborative learning that have been central to social education practices.

社会教育は、学校以外で広く行われる教育です。近年では、地域の人たちを学びによってつなげ、地域を支える基盤づくりと定義される場合もあります。しかし、社会教育という営みの核には、自己教育・相互教育があります。これはどのような営みなのでしょうか。この授業では、社会教育のたどってきた歴史を辿ることで、社会教育の基本的理念を把握した上で、具体的な社会教育の実践を著した記録から、その実践を支える方法や考え方を学びます。
またこの講義では、毎回グループディスカッションを行うことと、その日の気づきをリフレクション・ペーパーに書き、授業の中で共有し合う共同学習に取り組みます。それによって、この講義の中で社会教育の中で取り組まれてきた共同学習を体験します。
