1) Students will acquire a basic understanding of purpose, goal, and content of elementary school Social Studies classes in line with government course guidelines.
2) Students will be able to research teaching materials and to make lesson plans of elementary school Social Studies, by building on the ideas and methods of social science, the backbone of Social Studies, and by conforming to the principle of the subject which is to bring up citizens supporting democratic society.
3）Students will master a teaching method of elementary school Social Studies in which children can take the initiative.
Students will consider theoretical and practical issues relating to Social Studies in elementary schools and will learn instructional methods through actual experiences including instruction plans and evaluations.

1)小学校社会科の意義や目標、学習内容について学習指導要領に即して理解する。
2)一方で社会科の背景となっている社会科学の思想と方法に依拠し、他方で民主主義社会を担う主体を形成する社会科の本旨に従った教材研究や授業開発ができるようになる。
3)子どもが学習者として主体性を発揮できる社会科の授業方法について習熟する。

授業の性格上、履修者は予習が不可欠である。授業を通じて与えられる課題に誠実に向き合い、時間をかけて取り組むこと。また、文部科学省のWebサイトにアクセスし、「学習指導要領」をはじめとして、社会科教育に関する情報を入手し、自主的に理解を深めておくこと。その他、授業時間外の学習に関する指示は、必要に応じて別途指示する。
