【Course Objectives】

TOPIC: ENCOUNTERING FLASH FICTION
• To practice active reading strategies with a focus on intensive reading
• To read and analyze flash fiction in English
• To participate in class discussions in English

【Course Contents】

The course will focus on intensive reading of flash fiction—short stories of three or fewer pages. Though short, these stories possess all of the elements that define fiction. Through regular practice, students will develop strategies to more effectively understand and critically approach works of fiction of any length. In order to facilitate understanding of the texts, we will engage in both active and interactive reading exercises. Work in the course will involve discussion of the stories, weekly responses, and one or two in-class presentations per student, and two response papers.
