Learn how theater has functioned in a world hit by disaster. The course mainly focuses on modern and contemporary Japanese theater, and learns about its place in cultural history.
Up until now, the world has been hit by various disasters, but how have theaters managed to hold performances and perform works? We will look at the relationship between disasters and theater, covering everything from Kabuki and emerging theater from the Meiji era to contemporary theater, as well as commercial theater and musicals. We would like to take this as an opportunity to examine the relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and the performing arts since 2020, which we have faced as parties involved.

災厄に見舞われた世界のなかで、演劇がいかに機能してきたのかを学ぶ。主に近現代日本演劇を対象とし、文化史におけるその位置づけについて学ぶ。

これまで、世界はさまざまな災厄に見舞われてきたが、劇場はどのように興行をおこない、作品を上演してきたのか。歌舞伎や明治以降の新興演劇から現代演劇まで、商業演劇やミュージカルなども取り上げ、各時代の災厄と演劇の関係について考える。私たちが当事者として直面した、2020年以降のコロナ禍と舞台芸術の影響関係についても検証する機会としたい。
