The aim of this lecture is to learn the world history from the "ocean"and understand the exchange of people, goods and culture in order to conceive what is "sea" to human being.
The lecture will be carried out to give an visual image of each culture and history of the ocean. Each class will deal with different time frame which is not an ordinary history class but will deal with different history of distinct ocean such as Mediterranean, Indian, East China sea etc.

モノ・ヒト・情報の流れの歴史を「海」という場からとらえることに興味がある学生の履修が望ましい。世界史の基本を既に学んできていること。
世界史を「陸」からでなく、「海」からみつめることで、構築されたヒトとモノの交流の豊かな歴史について学び、人間の生活にとっての「海」とはなにか、について考えることを目標とする。

毎回異なる海の世界をテーマとし、各海域が作り上げた文化と歴史について講義を行う。通史と異なり、地中海世界に始まり、インド洋、東シナ海とそれぞれの海の世界について学ぶので、時間軸が毎回異なる。
