The goal of this course is to help students understand the basic facts and structures of Japanese history from ancient to early modern times, as well as how history developed over time. As historical research continues to advance, new views of Japanese history are being formed. By learning about recent research, students will develop basic historical thinking skills and learn to understand Japanese history from multiple perspectives.
This course explores historical events in the Japanese archipelago from ancient to early modern times, based on recent research. It looks at history in relation to changes in the natural environment and the situation in East Asia. The course covers important events and developments of each period, and also introduces what historians can and cannot explain, and how historical knowledge is created.

この授業では、古代から近世にいたる日本史の基本的な事項や構造に加えて、その展開を理解することを目標とする。研究の進展により新しい日本史像が描かれている。新たな研究成果と接することで、多様な価値観に支えられた日本史像を描いていける歴史的思考力を修得することを目指す。

古代から近世にいたる日本列島内で起きた歴史的出来事を、自然環境の変化や東アジア情勢との関係などを含む最新の研究成果を踏まえながら読み解いていく。また、各時代における重要な歴史的事件・事象だけでなく、歴史学というディシプリンが何をどのように明らかにできたのか、あるいはできなかったのかにも触れながら講義をすすめる。
