Students will learn fundamental knowledge about the history and the present state of literature, culture, and language in the German-speaking sphere, and will acquire indispensable fundamental knowledge that will apply to all studies over the next 4 years.
In addition to Germany in the narrow sense (i.e., the current Federal Republic of Germany), the lectures will broadly cover the language, literature, and culture in regions that have historically constituted the German-speaking sphere, from the start of modernity to the present age. Within this, the course will select and delve into a number of topics, introducing various perspectives for analysis and explanation. The classes will be led by Sakamoto in the first half and Yoshida in the second half.

ドイツ語圏の文学，文化，言語の歴史と現在に関する基礎知識を学び，今後４年間の勉学全てに共通する重要不可欠な基礎知識を習得する。

狭い意味でのドイツ（現在のドイツ連邦共和国）に限らず，歴史的にドイツ語圏といえる地域について，その言語，文学，文化を近代初期から現代に至るまで，広く講義する。その中で，若干のトピックを選んで掘り下げるとともに，分析や説明のためのさまざまな視点を紹介する。前半は坂本が，後半は吉田が担当。
