【Course Objectives】

Students will learn fundamental knowledge about the history and the present state of literature, culture, and language in the German-speaking sphere, and will acquire indispensable fundamental knowledge that will apply to all studies over the next 4 years.

【Course Contents】

In addition to Germany in the narrow sense (i.e., the current Federal Republic of Germany), the lectures will broadly cover the language, literature, and culture in regions that have historically constituted the German-speaking sphere, from the start of modernity to the present age. Within this, the course will select and delve into a number of topics, introducing various perspectives for analysis and explanation. The classes will be led by Yoshida in the first half and Miyazaki in the second half.
