Through analysis of literary texts and visual expressions, we will train students' ability to consider the people and various aspects of society, customs and culture that are depicted. We will interpret literary texts and train students' ability to restructure the problems that the texts raise in their own words.
This course will analyze texts based on the question of how "crowds" and "movements" have been depicted in modern Japanese literature. Specifically, it will focus on five themes: "Being a worker," "Dynamics of the herd," "Spectacles of invasion," "Questions surrounding anonymity," and "Crowds at the drop-off point," and will provide a detailed reading of each text, while also providing an understanding of methods for interpreting texts and the knowledge and skills necessary for literary research.

文学テキストや映像表現の分析を通して、そこに描かれる人間、および、社会・風俗・文化の諸相を考察する能力を鍛える。文学テキストを解釈し、そのテキストが投げかけている問題を自らの言葉で編成し直す能力を鍛える。

日本近代文学において〈群衆〉や〈うごめき〉がどのように描写されてきたのかという問題編成のもとでテキストを分析する。具体的には、「労働者であること」「群れの力学」「侵略の光景」「匿名性をめぐる問い」「寄せ場の群衆」という5つのテーマを設け、個々のテキストを精緻に読み解いていく。テキストを読み解くための方法、および、文学研究に必要な知識と技能を理解する。文学テキストの分析を通じて、そこに描かれた人間、社会、風俗、文化の諸相を考察すること。テキストが投げかけている問題を自らの言葉で編成し直すこと。そしてテキストの表現や構造を緻密に読み解くこと。それが本授業における到達目標である。
