【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

　批評理論の基礎を学び、それをアメリカの詩に応用することにより、新しい解釈の可能性を拡大します。さらには、そのダイナミズムを体感することによって、カリキュラムマップに示された「より高度な読解力」を養うとともに、「文学上の議論」やすぐれた「レポートを作成」できるようになります。

　This course introduces students to literary criticism theory and its application to American poetry, offering new perspectives for interpreting literature. Through this dynamic approach, students will develop essential language and literary debate skills as outlined in the Curriculum Map, while also cultivating effective practices for writing academic reports.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

　テクストを読みとくため、これまで各種の批評理論が考案されてきました。その多くはまばゆいほどきらびやかにみえます。もちろん批評理論を演繹するばかりでは、オリジナルな研究は生まれません。けれども、文学理論を援用することによって、同じテクストに新しい光を当てられることも事実です。
　そこで本演習では、精神分析理論やフェミニスト理論、ポストコロニアル理論など、各種の批評理論の初歩的基礎を学び、それらがアメリカの女性詩人エミリー・ディキンソンのテクストに対して、どのように適用することができるか探ります。
　本演習は、あらかじめ定められた担当者が、資料をまとめたハンドアウトに基づいて発表することによって進められます。担当でない参加者も議論に加わることが求められます。

　A variety of ideas for literary criticism have been developed across all genres to help us engage with texts on a deeper level. Many of these approaches are intellectually captivating. But original research cannot be achieved by merely applying criticism theory. The use of literary theory does, however, open up new pathways for exploring the same text.
　Using the works of American poet Emily Dickinson, students will learn the fundamentals and potential applications of various critical theories, including psychoanalysis, feminist theory, postcolonial philosophy, and other critical theories.
　Students will create handouts based on assigned passages and present them to the class. Those not presenting are also expected to actively participate in discussion about the work.
