This class will practice reading English poetry. Specifically, the following four areas will be emphasized:
a) Ability to paraphrase the content in prose.
b) Ability to understand the theme.
c) Ability to recognize the techniques used.
d) Ability to examine the historical context and apply it to understanding.
We will read representative American poems written in the late 19th and 20th centuries. From the perspectives stated in the "Course Objectives," a group consisting of a few students will present reports on the assigned poem to the class and ask the entire class questions that they believe are important for understanding it. Participants will be asked to submit a reaction paper the following week.

アメリカの代表的な詩作品から19世紀後半から20世紀に書かれたものを読みます。担当する数名のグループが「授業の目標」に記された観点から、作品についてのレポートをクラスで発表し、また作品理解にとって重要だと思われる疑問点をクラス全体に問いかけてもらいます。参加者は翌週にリアクションペーパーを提出します。
